Well I had pointed out that it was a matter of perspective. People whose health care coverage was reduced and/or had increased costs, as well as those who lost coverage and/or were penalized for not being able to afford coverage likely did not think of Obama as a great president. The health care industry and their stockholders likely were very pleased with him, as the industry saw a 300% increase, while one company realized a 480% increase. But that doesn't fit the narrative that the right is owned by big business and the left isn't.

I'm curious to understand the reasoning behind "one of the best ever" I was in the middle of commenting on a similar post (maybe it was deleted as Bozette mentioned, for whatever reason) but I will repost an argument that I saw on that one. Not verbatim of course (hey Im not rainman)

His main policy was Obamacare which passed only with a bunch of lies and deceit. He bribed Bart Stupack and promised over and over it was not a tax. But, yet, the Supreme Court upheld it on the grounds it was a tax. So, his main policy was nothing more than a lie.

Also, while he was in office, the Democrats lost more govt seats around the country that any party has ever lost. There is no way to explain that away and come away saying he was "one of the best ever" let alone decent. How could that not put him down as one of the worse ever? If I were a Democrat, I would be seething, not praising. He killed the party. As a result you also get a number of conservative SC judges. So, keep thinking he was great. Doesnt bother me at all. I like the conservative SC judges :)

Given what he inherited I'd say he did pretty good. Wasn't perfect but he was a decent president

What did he inherit? A market downturn that has happened countless times in the past. I know this was made out to be the apocolypse (bcause Bush was in office) but it is a natural up/down of the markets. Yes, it was a bigger downturn than most but that means (should mean) a bigger swing up.

And a war that was winding down.

During the reign of Bush, state attorneys general and others involved in consumer protection began to notice a marked increase in a range of predatory lending practices by mortgage lenders- Predatory lending was widely understood to present a looming national crisis. This threat was so clear that as New York attorney general, I joined with colleagues in the other 49 states in attempting to fill the void left by the federal government. Individually, and together, state attorneys general of both parties brought litigation or entered into settlements with many subprime lenders that were engaged in predatory lending practices. Several state legislatures, including New York's, enacted laws aimed at curbing such practices-

Not only did the Bush administration do nothing to protect consumers, it embarked on an aggressive and unprecedented campaign to prevent states from protecting their residents from the very problems to which the federal government was turning a blind eye-

In 2003, during the height of the predatory lending crisis, the OCC [Office of the Comptroller of the Currency] invoked a clause from the 1863 National Bank Act to issue formal opinions preempting all state predatory lending laws, thereby rendering them inoperative. The OCC also promulgated new rules that prevented states from enforcing any of their own consumer protection laws against national banks. The federal government's actions were so egregious and so unprecedented that all 50 state attorneys general, and all 50 state banking superintendents, actively fought the new rules.

The unanimous opposition of the 50 states did not deter the Bush administration in its goal of protecting the banks. The OCC filed a federal lawsuit to stopped all investigation into this.
