But seriously, I thought they were two separate meals. Supper being a mid day meal and Dinner being the last meal of the day, or visa versa.

Depends on where you are from. Some midday meal is lunch ans evening is dinner.

Other way around. Supper comes after dinner if they are different..Dinner technically means the largest meal of the day while supper means the last meal. Used to be lunch was the big meal and that was most rural farmers dinner and then they would have a late supper which was smaller. It was in the Victorian/Guilded age that the increasingly urban regular folk started copying the higher class by having their big meal(their dinner) at supper time and the names became interchangeable and we started using the term lunch for a smaller midday meal. At one time only rich people and aristocrats had their dinner later in the day. Workers and farmers usually ate their dinner around lunch time to fuel for the hard labor.

That's an old farmer thing. The mid-day meal was the big meal of the day, and with hubby working afternoons, it's our main meal together. Besides, it's not good for a person to have a heavy meal that soon before bedtime.
