My parents never did turn that car around, but the threat of it was very real. We knew our parents meant business when the car was headed for the shoulder of the road.

Yup...worked...like a charm. At least with us.

Anyone else remember your parents barking that threat during travels in the family car?

I don't remember my parents ever saying that particular thing. I do know that they made it very clear that they weren't pleased though...when my brother and I got too boisterous in the back seat of the car.

The backseat of the car was where my brother was a holy terror, pinching and tickling, and teasing. Of course he made me scream, so that would get our parent's attention. My heart used to drop when the car would slow down with that threat of returning back home.

My brother was like that too...but I have fond memories of his game of who could make who laugh first. He usually won. :)

My brother's goal was to see how fast he could get us to scream. He was a bit of a devil in the day.

I too have some humorous memories of my brother.

My brother was often quite mean to me when we were kids, but I still pretty much adored him anyway. He surprised me with kindness now and then...too.

Haha, my husband used to tell the kids if they didn't behave, he was going to pull over and they would have to walk home. That got their attention ASAP. lol Of course, he would never do that, but they didn't know that. lol

We never had to do this with our own kids since they were 9 years apart. But I have vivid memories of being a kid and having this done to us. My mother could shoot you a look that would stop you in your tracks. She didn't need to holler.

OMG yes, Yes, and YES! We spent our summers on Cape Cod, Maine, and Nova Scotia. Ii cannot tell you how many times My brother nd I heard my father bellow those words while we were packed tightly in the Country Squire station wagon.

Somewhere along the way, it was not uncommon to hear the companion statement, "You've ruined another vacation!"

Ahhh The good old days

Did you have any sisters you tormented? My brother was the master tormentor who could suddenly put a calm face on when my mother was looking to see what the ruckus was about.

Never actually turned the car around, but when my dad said those words, you knew he meant business and you just up pretty fast. :)

We seem to never doubt he would turn that darn Chevy around. I can well imagine screaming kids in the back of a car was a real distraction for a driver on a highway.

...third time a charm with posting?....good thing I copied this before the error message....waiting...waiting...waiting...

I don't know, I guess my sister and I were pretty good for the most part and we never heard it.

They never made the threat to turn the car around, but the would say "don't make me pull over". If they pulled over... whoopins for certain!

THAT too was the fear. Mom would reach over and give a good swat if we were really acting out (Dad was always the driver and she was the front seat passenger).

Hee hee. Struck a real chord of fear in me. They never did turn around, but we always knew it was a possibility.
