I have a situation and would like some opinions. I know a guy that I believe to have psychological problems. Well, let me be clear, I don't know him in real life, only through online interactions. Still, I believe that he suffers from a couple of serious mental conditions, specifically rage and paranoia.
This individual has posted, on more than one occasion, that since he is a minority, that others (in the majority) are "out to get him". I have tried to allay his fears but it is at this point that the rage comes in to play. He has even private messaged me with threats of a violent/sexual nature. I believe the sexual part of these threats are because he feels it is something that would bother me but, the truth is, I'm pretty tolerant and while the acts he described aren't my cup of tea, I have no issue with what anyone does in the privacy of their own home. The violence part, however, does concern me. I am worried no just for myself, but for my family who he has also mentioned (albeit only in one of his messages, but still, it is concerning) Now, I know this is an online tiff so this is likely not a big deal but, in today's world, who knows?
I have reason to believe that he is searching me out online, looking for personal information about me. If this is true which, to be fair, I am only assuming, then it would be of that much more concern since it would indicate that this may be more than just an internet tiff in his mind. In today's world, even minors have an online presence so the mentions of my family within the threats is even more concerning.
I dont want to overreact, but I also don't want to dismiss something that could be a legitimate issue.
So, I am concerned for my family, and for myself but still, even, for this individual.
What is the right Christian thing to do?
