Yes. It is true. Immigrants did make this country great. But it seems from previous posts that this is intended to mean unfettered illegal immigration is okay. It is not. The immigrants that made this country great were legal and enter the country legally. So to be clear legal immigration made this country great. Illegal immigration does the opposite, and tears this country apart.

Additionally we no longer have to pressing a need for immigration to be at the levels. As an example businesses generally start up by borrowing money. It's a necessity. But when the business is established there's no longer a need for that borrowing of money. So it's like saying a business should continue to borrow money because borrowing money is what made the business great. Sometimes situations and circumstances change. And the rules of the game need to change along with it. That's simply a fact of life

Heres actually a better metaphor. A new company starts up and needs employees. Obviously without enough employees doing various kinds of things with various kinds of skills the company cannot succeed. But once that company becomes established should they just continue to hire people whether there is a need for it or not? Obviously, at a certain point then needs change. Well the needs of this country have changed. We no longer need Millions upon millions of people to come to help increase our growth. At this point it makes sense to only bring in the best and brightest. The educated and ones that will drive this country forward. Not Millions upon millions that have no skills and was only contribution is manual labor. We have plenty of uneducated unskilled people to fill that role.

We were all immigrants or came from immigrants. My family immigrated in 1620 and 1750 respectively.

Immigrants who came here at the turn of the 20th Century came here for all the same reasons the immigrants are coming here today - to escape violence, war and oppression, for a better life for themselves and their children. None of the original large influx of immigrants were welcomed with open arms. They came from different backgrounds, educational levels and cultures. Yet, they all managed to find work, become educated and raised themselves up the socio-economic ladder. Having said that, those immigrants came at a time when the country was young and needed more workers. We are no longer in a position of needing as many people to fill jobs, especially since so many jobs have been taken over by technology. But, we still do need workers who are willing to toil in the fields - jobs that many Americans will not do. Unfortunately, there are millions and millions of people who would like emigrate to the U.S. but we cannot absorb that many people in this country.

LEGAL immigrants, not illegals up to no good!

and why do you hate americans so much (probably including yourself) that you are willing to say you are all what makes america terrible?

That's a meaningless statement. There have been immigrants here since the first people migrated here, and natives since shortly thereafter. Some immigrants have done/do great things, others don't...and the same is true of those native to America...whatever their ancestry.
