What have labor unions given us?
The Labor Unions have given us: weekends, fair wages, helped to end child labor, health coverage through employers, family and medical leave act. How can anyone be against the unions?

Do you support our Labor Unions?

Labor Unions were formed for good reason. While we know there can be terrible corruption in some of them, the concept has given some hard working, blue collar workers a fair wage and health benefits they deserve.

For all those against unions, I challenge you to look at the bigger issue of how we can still have many hard working Americans that still do not have affordable healthcare and wages that they can support even a minimal household.

I agree that unions were formed for a good reason. But they simply became too corrupt, and are to this day. Maybe that is the nature of that kind of group. They were formed to wrest control from those more powerful, and as they became more and more powerful, they tipped the balance of power the other direction.

I think at this point in time, lessening the influence of unions is a good thing. We have such a strong social aspect of life now, and businesses are so in tune to "being good" whether that is for the environment, for trans-du-jour rights, what have you, that I wonder if unions are really needed as much.

There is so much social pressure on companies in today's world that "twitter mobs" essesntially do the job of unions it seems.

Unions served necessary and laudable purposes for many years. Just like any other association among men, though, they became corrupt over time. I don't have any problem with the existence of unions today, I do take issue with joining them being mandatory as a condition of employment, however. By allowing their existence, without mandatory membership requirements, they can be made accountable to the rank and file.
